Interview

What inspires your art practice and keeps you motivated?
I explore my inner world through the use of sacred geometric patterns and biomorphic shapes in my art practice. My process is deeply meditative, embracing the calming rhythm of drafting patterns using grids and interlocking circles. My experiences are reflected in the compositions, with details from my daily life finding their place within the larger cycles of life.

How does your mission as an artist influence the work you create?
My mission as an artist is to find a connection with the world. I do this by finding patterns and relations between biological systems and the rhythms of life cycles. A particular focus in my recent work has been comparing the physiology of human and plant structures.

Can you share a key part of your creative process that helps you stay focused?
A key part of my creative process is spending time in nature. I can often be found in the woods, splashing in a creek, taking pictures of the way the sunlight streams through the leaves, or the moon rising over the quiet landscape.

What mindset tip do you rely on to overcome challenges in your art career?
A mindset that I have focused on in recent years is embracing faith. I don't need to have all the answers for how something will happen, but I do need to trust that my steps will get me there.

How do you hope your art impacts the world or your community?
I hope that my art impacts my community by providing a moment of rest for weary thoughts. Painting is a very rich sensory experience—both for myself in creating it and for the viewer who stands in front of it. Similar to the experience of walking a labyrinth, carefully tracing the lines with the remembrance that life is cyclical, persistent, and ever hopeful.
