Interview
What inspires your art practice and keeps you motivated?
Nature is my number one inspiration. It provides the spark that makes me want to create. My students and community keep me motivated to keep trying new techniques, new types of paper, new projects.
Can you share a key part of your creative process that helps you stay focused?
Building flowers and plants from paper requires me to be in the present moment. It makes my mind feel at ease – cutting, shaping, coloring one petal at a time to create a completed flower. The pieces that I make require both repetition and innovation, so I need to be comfortable with both states of mind.
What mindset tip do you rely on to overcome challenges in your art career?
Growth happens over time, not overnight – and it’s okay to go at my own pace.
How do you hope your art impacts the world or your community?
I hope that my sculptures inspire people to stop and take notice of the small moments of beauty that nature provides us every day. I hope that my classes and workshops allow people to feel the joy of creating, and to experience the wonder of making something beautiful with simple materials.
