Interview
What inspires your art practice and keeps you motivated?
I’m inspired by the world around me—by the resilience of people, especially women, who fight for their rights and freedom, and by the female form and our connection to nature. Finding beauty in the mundane, pursuing inner peace, and advocating for freedom and the oppressed all fuel my creative expression and keep me motivated.
How does your mission as an artist influence the work you create?
My mission as an artist is to foster unity, empathy, and empowerment—both within myself and for those who experience my work. By celebrating individuality, the female form, and cultural richness, I aim to address social issues with a sense of hope and positivity. Yet my art is also an invitation to travel—a chance to pause, find calm, and meditate in our hectic world. This duality shapes everything from my choice of subjects and color palettes to the causes I support. Each piece I create is both personal and purposeful.
Can you share a key part of your creative process that helps you stay focused?
I like to begin by journaling or sketching on my iPad—sometimes creating a mood board on Canva, especially for commissioned pieces. This initial phase helps refine my vision, ensuring I’m grounded in the story I want to tell before I pick up a brush or pencil. I can be easily distracted, so having a straightforward, intuitive process is crucial. I don’t do ten detailed sketches; as a self-taught artist, I rely on my instincts to guide me, which keeps me focused and prevents creative block.
What mindset tip do you rely on to overcome challenges in your art career?
I lean on celebration and reflection to conquer challenges like imposter syndrome, visibility struggles, and the hurdles of being a highly sensitive/introvert/AD(H)D person. Journaling—whether it’s a quick brain dump or deeper reflection—keeps me grounded. Looking back on how far I’ve come, the art I’ve sold, and the causes I’ve supported reminds me I’m capable and determined. Community support is crucial, too, which is why I joined The Art Queens. Having a network of fellow artists is a game-changer for staying motivated and encouraged.
How do you hope your art impacts the world or your community?
I hope my art creates a sense of connection, healing, and empowerment. I want viewers to pause, reflect, and find hope—even as I shine light on social issues and celebrate the female form. Ultimately, I’d love for my work to bring people together, spark conversation, and serve as a reminder that we can stand for freedom, unity, and inner peace all at once.
