Mariana Gómez
I am a multidisciplinary artist whose work lies at the intersection of contemporary art, feminism, and spirituality. Through various plastic media such as painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, and embroidery, I explore the diversity of the feminine universe in the 21st century. Each creation is an expedition to the heart of the feminine, addressing themes that society tends to avoid and challenging taboos. My intention is to dismantle restrictions, providing a space for authentic and inclusive conversations.
My art is a tribute to feminine spirituality, recognizing the inner divinity that resides in all women. Through each work, this divinity is reaffirmed and repositioned in its rightful place in the world. My work thus becomes an act of resistance against patriarchy, giving voice to the feminine gender and reclaiming its place in cultural narratives.
With a Master's in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute and an undergraduate degree in painting from Universidad de los Andes, my work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Bogotá, Tokyo, and London in different galleries and art fairs. Currently, I maintain a daily studio practice investigating feminine themes and their social implications, while directing DAMA, my gallery in Bogotá focused on promoting emerging and female artists.

Interview
What inspires your art practice and keeps you motivated?
My inspiration comes from exploring the vast world of femininity and spirituality in the 21st century. Through various mediums like painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, and embroidery, I find deep motivation in uncovering the hidden dimensions of womanhood and sparking conversations about topics often relegated to the shadows. The infinite diversity of feminist art and the opportunity to challenge societal norms keep me driven in my practice.
How does your mission as an artist influence the work you create?
My mission is to create deep connections with people and increase engagement with art—whether through collecting, appreciating, gifting, living with it, or experiencing it in daily life. This mission directly influences my work as I strive to be someone who forms profound bonds with others through my creations, whether it's through a finished piece, social media post, workshop, or creative experience. My art becomes a platform for dismantling restrictions and providing space for authentic, inclusive conversations.
Can you share a key part of your creative process that helps you stay focused?
Maintaining a daily studio practice is crucial to my creative process. I dedicate myself to investigating feminine themes and their societal implications through consistent work. This daily commitment to creation helps me stay connected to my artistic vision and maintains my focus on exploring the intersection of contemporary art, feminism, and spirituality.
What mindset tip do you rely on to overcome challenges in your art career?
I remind myself that we are all creative beings with the divine right to create the life we want. When facing challenges, I embrace the mindset that artists often face their fears head-on in pursuit of their dreams. Despite the path not always being easy, we keep walking because we know it's what drives us. This perspective helps me push through difficulties and stay true to my artistic vision.
How do you hope your art impacts the world or your community?
I aspire to make art something that connects all human beings, encouraging everyone to make space for it in their lives in whatever way resonates with them. Through my work, I hope to create a platform for women's voices, challenge patriarchal conventions, and celebrate the divine feminine in all its forms. My goal is to spark authentic dialogues about the female experience and create a vibrant tapestry of empowerment that invites viewers to participate in the unfiltered celebration of women's multifaceted nature.
