Interview

What inspires your art practice and keeps you motivated?
My desire to continue to challenge and explore my own self, beliefs, and where I find meaning, combined with deeply connecting with others through my art.

How does your mission as an artist influence the work you create?
I believe we are all more connected than we think, through the experience of being human and the full range of emotions. Art enables both the artist and viewer to explore these fundamental truths in more depth—to be seen and understood.

Can you share a key part of your creative process that helps you stay focused?
I follow my energy and try to align tasks to match my energy on any given day. Knowing that the physical process of making art is healing and deeply fulfilling, I try to protect as much time as possible for quiet, focused blocks of creation where I don’t feel rushed or pressured.

What mindset tip do you rely on to overcome challenges in your art career?
View everything as learning, whether good or bad, a win or a failure. Just keep going. If you keep going, you can’t fail. Gather learnings and inputs from those around you, but know that the only way of doing things that’s true to you is your own and can’t be instructed by anyone else. Be unique, be yourself, and if you don’t know what that is, create enough space and quiet time to fully explore it.

How do you hope your art impacts the world or your community?
I hope more people will take the time to slow down and immerse themselves in art. Physically stand in front of a painting for 10 minutes and see what comes up. I hope that art allows us to develop more empathy and compassion for ourselves and others—that we are all more similar and less alone than the world would have us think.
