Jalinka Gressmann

Jalinka is an artist who creates mixed-media paintings and collages that explore and communicate concepts of mysticism, nature, and freedom through surrealistic and symbolic narratives. She draws inspiration from various sources and uses all her senses, including her dreams, to create balanced compositions featuring both figurative and abstract work. Her creative process is mainly associative and experimental.

Artist Statement

I am an explorer of imagination. Ideas flow endlessly from within and from the world around me. With a love for hunting and collecting the unique and the odd, I wander through flea markets, antique shops, and second-hand bookstores filled with stories and history. However, the most magical discoveries are always in nature.

Using art as a transformative tool, I visually communicate and identify patterns and connections, shaping my life's purpose amidst this absurd existence. Sharing my art with others is a way of telling people who don't know it yet that creating has no limits. Every moment is an opportunity to discover and create a new adventure.

What inspires your art practice and keeps you motivated?
Life.

How does your mission as an artist influence the work you create?
In general, it doesn’t influence as I’m creating, but afterward, I can make it fit in the right direction if needed. Occasionally, I do work conceptually.

Can you share a key part of your creative process that helps you stay focused?
Listening to music and being alone.

What mindset tip do you rely on to overcome challenges in your art career?
Enjoy the moment (the now), never give up, and realize that growth takes time.

How do you hope your art impacts the world or your community?
I hope it gives someone what they need in that moment.
