Interview
What inspires your art practice and keeps you motivated?
I find endless inspiration in the natural world—the quiet elegance of fungi patterns, the delicate architecture of coral, the shifting colors and shapes of the clouds above. These organic forms, both minute and monumental, speak to the beauty of impermanence and the wonder woven into our surroundings.
Daily walks in nature and moments of stillness are essential parts of my creative process. They allow me to observe and absorb the subtleties that often go unnoticed—fleeting details that continually surprise and delight me. It’s in these moments of quiet connection that my work begins to take shape.
How does your mission as an artist influence the work you create?
My mission as an artist is to cultivate moments of stillness and tranquility—both within myself and for those who experience my work. This intention guides every part of my process, allowing the act of creation to become a meditative practice rooted in presence and flow.
Working with fluid, unpredictable mediums requires a sensitivity to their unique rhythms. I let the materials lead at times, embracing spontaneity and allowing layered transparencies, textures, and color interactions to emerge organically. This surrender to the moment invites unexpected beauty—each piece becoming a quiet reflection of balance, impermanence, and connection.
Can you share a key part of your creative process that helps you stay focused?
Spending time in nature each day is a non-negotiable part of my creative practice. It’s a quiet ritual—without devices or distractions—where I can truly be present with the world around me. Immersing myself in the subtle details of light, texture, and movement allows inspiration to arise organically.
During these moments of stillness, ideas often flow through me unfiltered. I keep a sketchbook nearby to capture them without judgment or expectation—sometimes returning to them later when the timing feels right. This practice helps me stay connected to my creative voice and keeps my work rooted in authenticity and presence.
What mindset tip do you rely on to overcome challenges in your art career?
One mindset I return to often is: consistency over perfection. For a long time, I felt paralyzed by the pressure to create something “perfect,” which often kept me from creating at all. Over time, I’ve done the inner work to shift that perspective—learning to release judgment and approach my practice with greater compassion and grace.
Embracing the imperfect, the evolving, and the in-progress has allowed me to stay present and keep moving forward. Every brushstroke, every piece—whether finished or not—is part of the journey. It’s through showing up consistently that growth, clarity, and creative breakthroughs unfold.
How do you hope your art impacts the world or your community?
I hope my art offers a moment of tranquility—a gentle pause in the midst of a noisy world. Even if just for a minute, I want viewers to feel transported to a place of stillness and presence, especially during times when that peace feels hard to access.
My wish is that each piece creates space for quiet reflection or stirs a sense of familiarity, like a memory or a landscape from a dream. If my work can reconnect someone to a feeling they’ve forgotten, or offer comfort when it’s most needed, then I feel I’ve fulfilled something truly meaningful.
